# Buffalo Bills Fantasy Preview 2026: Dalton Kincaid Has 16 Calls Against Him and For Him, and Buffalo Sleepers Are 1-for-8

*Published 2026-08-30 — MissedTakes*

Buffalo went 12-5 and made the playoffs in 2025, the sixth straight [Bills](/nfl/teams/bills) season with a postseason berth in our records. So the punditry is not short of enthusiasm. What it is short of is a graded track record on this specific roster — and where the record exists, it is unkind.

Here is what pundits have actually said about Buffalo's fantasy pieces since March 1, and what our grading says about believing them.

## Who the field is talking about

Across sleeper and bust calls claimed this offseason, six Buffalo skill players draw essentially all the attention. One draws nearly as much as the rest combined.

## Quarterback: Josh Allen, with a price objection

[Mike Harmon](/pundits/mike-harmon) ranked Allen "far and away No. 1" in [his 2026 fantasy quarterback rankings](/opinions/feb38838-6fd5-4476-bc69-1a67c475322b), ahead of Drake Maye and Lamar Jackson. [Rich Hribar](/pundits/rich-hribar) put [Allen alone in Tier 1](/opinions/572c3307-59a9-4c58-b3b4-165cc6d4d379) as "the player who has the highest odds of finishing as the QB1 in overall scoring." An unsigned PFF piece narrowed the overall QB1 race to Allen, Maye and Justin Herbert.

The only pushback on file is about cost, not talent: Eric Karabell twice argued Allen "should [not] be a second-round pick in standard (non-superflex) ESPN fantasy football leagues." Both of those bust calls are logged and neither is graded.

One caution from the graded side. Our database holds five graded [positional-finish](/predictions/player-positional-finish) calls on [Josh Allen](/nfl/players/josh-allen) from the 2025 season — the "best quarterback in the league" genre from [Jason McIntyre](/pundits/jason-mcintyre), [Pat Gustavson](/opinions/06884586-5b21-40c8-9439-e303a3e8a806), Chris Brockman and [Nick Wright](/opinions/c6cb2a0e-dd3e-479c-81dd-e8cbb954e77a) — and they graded between 16.67 and 25 accuracy, because they were settled on passing-yard rank and Allen finished 11th. That is a lesson about vague claims more than about Allen: "best in the league" and "QB1 in fantasy scoring" are different bets, and only the second one helps your lineup. Buffalo QB takes overall sit at 36.3 average accuracy on 31 graded calls.

## Running back: James Cook is the consensus, unanimously

Seven separate sleeper/value calls this offseason name [James Cook](/nfl/players/james-cook), and every positional-finish call on him is bullish. [Derek Brown](/pundits/derek-brown) called him ["the best value on the board"](/opinions/3cfd15b8-6f97-4384-8e53-71b392cd3650) at eleventh overall and floated a top-three finish. [Andrew Erickson](/pundits/andrew-erickson) says [Cook "could flirt with an overall RB1 status"](/opinions/567dc314-3ab9-416a-ae63-4d704ca3f2b8) as a three-down back under new head coach Joe Brady. Mike Fanelli drafts him as the third back off the board, "easily ahead of Christian McCaffrey." [Tom Strachan](/opinions/53b02435-f77e-4945-86fb-49ec0281e4c2) has a top-two finish in his range. [Ralph Vacchiano](/opinions/8821a0e1-71be-4e06-8a58-b522b8e78478) expects him to repeat the 1,621 rushing yards that led the league.

Not a single fade on file. That is the honest headline: there is no disagreement to arbitrate here, which also means no contrarian edge available. For what it's worth, Cook's last graded season backs the crowd — Erickson's January call of a top-three RB finish graded 83.33 against an actual RB5 finish by fantasy points, and Brockman and Rich Eisen both scored 100 on rushing-title calls.

Behind him, Ray Davis is the pure handcuff pick, named by Frank Ammirante ("once again one of the most valuable handcuffs in fantasy football"), Skyler Carlin and [PFF](/opinions/1813afef-f083-42dc-aea5-40bd212a3370). Note that this is the third straight cycle for that call, and the previous two graded zero: Davis finished RB59 in 2025 against an RB35 bar.

## Wide receiver: DJ Moore is the actual argument

[DJ Moore](/nfl/players/dj-moore) has eight endorsements on file and one fade. Derek Brown is ["closer to him being a boom"](/opinions/90f6f691-6eb5-41f4-b6e7-ec80639b10ad) as the replacement for Stefon Diggs' role; [Joe Pisapia](/opinions/756d3506-7873-418b-87dd-aac62276b46d) is "buying into the DJ Moore boom"; Gustavson took him as a sleeper at WR29, pick 63 overall, expecting production "in a similar vein to the way Diggs did." Fanelli has him twice as an ADP value (WR26–WR28). [Ian Rapoport](/opinions/eb77bd7f-7fb6-4fcc-99c5-c849529c7230) is the useful dissenting note inside a positive call: Moore is a breakout candidate, but "the Buffalo Bills like to spread the ball around." Tera Roberts is the lone outright fade — "I don't think he's going to thrive in Buffalo."

[Khalil Shakir](/nfl/players/khalil-shakir) runs the other way: one endorsement (Josh Shepardson, "more upside than meets the eye") against three fades. Derek Brown put him on his [do-not-draft list](/opinions/b6d89369-386f-4320-aeb1-85d81f9f8960) — "I won't be drafting Shakir on any teams this season" — Erickson calls him ["a floor-based depth option"](/opinions/4e0a5eb5-20d8-4c0f-9513-fd8c61d817a0), and [Nathan Jahnke](/opinions/562a3c62-342b-4220-b6da-2c1664e9da1e) says he "is not the kind of player who will win you your fantasy league."

Keon Coleman is now a two-mention afterthought: Harmon's "late round guys that can pop a little bit," Ammirante's "post-hype sleeper."

## Tight end: the only real fight in Buffalo

Dalton Kincaid has 16 fantasy calls this offseason, split seven for and nine against — the most-argued player on the roster by a wide margin.

The bulls point at role and quarterback. Jahnke has backed him four separate times ("an ideal target for fantasy managers who wait at tight end"; ["the talent and role to finish among the league's top fantasy tight ends"](/opinions/d8c2a320-6b7b-491b-a939-f8c07d0d0e7b)). Alex Kay says a TE10-or-better finish is "almost guaranteed."

The bears all point at the same thing — snaps. [Pat Fitzmaurice](/opinions/a646aef4-adc1-4d34-afe1-ea4e27f639a9) has logged the fade three times, arguing Kincaid is best treated as "a high-end TE2." Fanelli: at ADP 118.51 as the TE10, "Kincaid no longer has a realistic shot at being first or second on his team in targets." Gustavson would rank him TE16 rather than TE10; [Seth Woolcock](/opinions/0fc282f8-d8bb-4ad0-ac91-0fdf6277e81b) calls TE9 at 104 overall "just too pricey"; Roberts: "we're still drafting him as a top ten tight end when we have not seen that top ten output."

## Team defense: nothing

There is no fantasy-defense call about Buffalo in the database. Site-wide, we hold five Fantasy Defense Calls and none are graded, so we have no basis at all for or against the Bills as a DST.

## How much should you trust any of this?

Three readings, none flattering.

**1. Buffalo's graded sleeper record is 1-for-8.**

![The graded record on Bills sleeper calls](/posts/visuals/c0b7d11b-1448-4dff-bef3-fc6d69829a57.png)

Eight graded [sleeper calls](/predictions/fantasy-sleeper) on Bills players average 12.5 accuracy and a skill delta of -138.25 — meaning worse than the naive assumption that a player repeats last season. Four of the eight were Josh Palmer breakout calls from 2025 ([Derek Brown](/opinions/effe2fda-3dcb-489f-a1e1-f8fa5b11ada7), [Erickson](/opinions/58b6b85b-eacc-4bf3-a205-bcc403d81bc2), [Terrell Furman Jr](/opinions/e83f8667-94eb-4f24-bba4-88ba1216e5a3), [Kyle Brandt](/opinions/0ac828b2-10ea-4a35-a260-209ab051357f)); Palmer finished WR114 against a WR76 bar and all four graded 0. Two Ray Davis calls graded 0. [Scott Bogman](/opinions/bc8740ad-5cd2-4cf0-9329-e576f6df3a81) on Keon Coleman graded 0 (WR62 against a WR60 bar). The single hit is [Marcus Mosher](/opinions/ba683c67-ddac-4f86-a7cf-54efadfb8209) on Khalil Shakir in 2024, which scored 100. Eight calls is a thin sample and one team's sample at that — but every miss came from the same cheap-Buffalo-receiver trade the field is running again.

**2. Fantasy calls by position, league-wide, are mediocre and worse at the exact claim types being made here.**

![Site-wide sleeper-call accuracy by position](/posts/visuals/63f080f7-66da-4edf-ac38-b93e614e2447.png)

Bust calls grade better than sleepers at receiver (64.3 on 42 graded) and worse at tight end (42.9 on 7 — too few to lean on). Positional-finish calls are the weakest genre we grade: WR 27.5 on 102, QB 34 on 84, RB 51.3 on 45, TE 42.6 on 27. Every "RB1 overall" and "QB1 overall" line above lives in that bucket.

**3. Late-August calls are the worst-timed sleeper calls we have.**

By [lead time](/methodology), sleeper calls made inside six weeks of resolution average 42 accuracy (26 graded) versus 55 for calls made four to eight months out (211 graded). Bust calls run the other way — 70 inside six weeks, on only 10 graded. Both of those thin buckets should be read as hints, not laws.

**And the individual records:** Derek Brown grades 51.2 accuracy on 41 sleeper calls but 75 on 16 bust calls. Erickson is 45.9 on 37 sleepers (skill -11.27) and 81.8 on 11 busts. Fitzmaurice — the loudest Kincaid fade — is 59.2 on 32 sleepers but 22.9 on 13 busts, a skill delta of -108.57. Jahnke, the loudest Kincaid backer, has exactly one graded take in our database and no rated record at all. Harmon has 35 graded takes, still provisional.

## Bottom line for your draft

Cook is unanimous, and the graded history on him is the best thing in this file. The Buffalo receiver room is where this field has repeatedly lost money — and it is running the same play again with DJ Moore. On Kincaid, the fade side has the numbers on its side, but the pundit with the strongest bust record (Erickson) isn't on it and the pundit with the worst one (Fitzmaurice) is.
