# Dallas Cowboys Fantasy Preview 2026: The Field Is 4-for-4 on Pickens and 0-for-2 on CeeDee Lamb

*Published 2026-08-30 — MissedTakes*

Dallas is a heavily covered fantasy team by volume and a lightly graded one by result. Our file on the [Cowboys](/nfl/teams/cowboys) holds 42 Sleeper Calls, of which 14 have been graded (71.4 average accuracy, +85.3 average skill), and nine Fantasy Bust Calls, of which **zero** have been graded. Positional Finishes on Cowboys players run 34 takes, 18 graded, 35.2 average accuracy. So there is plenty of opinion to read and a small pile of settled results to check it against.

Here is what the field is saying about the 2026 team, group by group, and what the graded record says about how much of it to believe.

## Quarterback: the most crowded consensus on the roster

[Dak Prescott](/nfl/players/dak-prescott) draws six separate sleeper endorsements this month, all built on the same argument — he's cheap for what he produces. Steve Krebs calls the price "egregious" at QB8 in ADP. Ryan Conway's PFF piece notes Prescott is "going off the board as the QB11. Yet in no healthy season has he ever finished lower than QB10." [Trevor Sikkema](/pundits/trevor-sikkema) says ["where Dak is getting drafted right now, I think that is too low"](/opinions/3518a803-e0a1-4384-a54c-d2f1b3048828). [Pat Fitzmaurice](/pundits/pat-fitzmaurice) has him among [five middle-round quarterbacks he loves](/opinions/de765b46-ad1b-43a3-b685-4b38acb95569). [Derek Brown](/pundits/derek-brown) calls him a [locked-in QB1 with top-five upside](/opinions/ecf42100-92b4-47e4-90c1-14278dec5dc4), and Krebs projects a repeat top-five finish.

That is not a disagreement; it's one take made six times. Its predecessor graded well. Brown made the same call in August 2025 — Prescott at "a low end QB one price tag" — and it scored 100 accuracy, +200 skill, with Prescott finishing QB6 against a bar of QB32. His separate "top five numbers" ranking scored 91.67 accuracy and +183.33 skill. Site-wide, quarterback is also the *best*-scoring position for sleeper calls: 63.9 average accuracy on 36 graded, versus 45.9 for running backs.

## Running back: Javonte Williams is the club's best-graded fantasy story

[Javonte Williams](/nfl/players/javonte-williams) has the strongest graded track record of anyone in this building. Sleeper calls naming him are 4-for-4, 100 average accuracy, +175 average skill — [Andrew Erickson](/pundits/andrew-erickson) and [Ryan Wormeli](/pundits/ryan-wormeli) both took him at "RB thirty seven" in May 2025 and he finished RB11. Every Cowboys take about him, across all claim types, averages 88.9 accuracy on nine graded.

The field is back for more. Brown calls him [a "locked-in top-10 back with top-5 upside"](/opinions/147ea1e1-f9d3-4856-a6dc-776c368ca9bf) and a must-draft; FantasyPros notes he was "the RB1 in fantasy points per game last year, yet he's being drafted like a mid-tier RB2." [Jake Ciely](/pundits/jake-ciely) is at RB13 against an ADP near RB18.

The real argument is behind him. Four sleeper calls back [Jaydon Blue](/nfl/players/jaydon-blue) — Matt Bowen twice ("a path to win the No. 2 role behind Javonte Williams in a Dallas offense that scores points"), Evan Tarracciano, and the FantasyPros consensus. On August 24, [Nathan Jahnke](/pundits/nathan-jahnke) [reversed course off preseason usage](/opinions/760054fd-7815-4b86-a9e3-bc9bdb0a730b): "Blue was worth drafting in the late rounds when it seemed clear he was on track to win the backup job, but this is now a situation to avoid." Jahnke has one graded take on this site, so his record tells you nothing; the timing of the call is the argument, not the résumé.

## Wide receiver: the split the whole preview turns on

[George Pickens](/nfl/players/george-pickens) is the field's cleanest win. Sleeper calls on him are 4-for-4 at 100 accuracy and +200 skill — he finished WR4 against a WR41 bar. Worth noting even the bulls were too low: Brown's "top fifteen wide receiver" ranking scored **8.33** accuracy, because top-15 was nowhere near WR4. This year PFF's Nic Bodiford has him as "a high-volume fantasy football WR1," while Andrew Hawkins would place him "around the number nine."

[CeeDee Lamb](/nfl/players/ceedee-lamb) is the opposite. Graded sleeper calls on him are 0-for-2 at -200 skill: [Erickson](/opinions/f6287666-eaac-4848-8f1d-0a470374edf0) at "ECR six" and Mason Dodd's "wide receiver one overall" both needed a WR9 finish and got WR23. Every Cowboys take about Lamb averages 23.0 accuracy on eight graded, the worst of any skill-position player here.

The 2026 field is genuinely divided — and one analyst is divided with himself. [Tom Strachan](/pundits/tom-strachan) lists Lamb as a player to avoid [at 1.04](/opinions/bddebd96-f720-44fa-9eb0-d44911ba3039) and [at 1.05](/opinions/f57204ff-1dca-4473-bfe0-cea1204a5547) — "Pickens has slightly capped Lamb's upside" — then, [drafting from 1.08](/opinions/53b02435-f77e-4945-86fb-49ec0281e4c2), targets him: "if you're happy to believe 2025 was a blip rather than the new normal, it becomes easier to see Lamb as a value pick in this range." Tera Roberts faded him back in May. That is a price disagreement, not a talent one, and it's the most honest thing in the file.

Behind them, [Ryan Flournoy](/nfl/players/ryan-flournoy) is the deep name, cited six times since June — twice in the FantasyPros consensus, twice by Tristan H. Cockcroft ("could seamlessly step into one of the game's more well-rounded offenses if injuries arise"), plus local voices Clarence Hill and Jesse Holley. Nobody attaches a startable projection to him.

## Tight end: three bust calls, one top-five call, no graded history

[Jake Ferguson](/nfl/players/jake-ferguson) is the most negative name on the roster. Kyle Zeigler: "Someone in this Cowboys offense is going to disappoint... my bet is on Jake Ferguson taking the hit," down to TE3 territory. Fitzmaurice, twice: ["a high-end TE2"](/opinions/a646aef4-adc1-4d34-afe1-ea4e27f639a9) while Lamb and Pickens are healthy. Krebs is the lone bull, calling him a top-five tight end for a second straight year.

Trust here is thin in both directions. Cowboys tight end takes have exactly two graded results in our whole file. Site-wide, tight end is the weakest bust group we grade: seven graded calls, 42.9 accuracy, **-51.6 skill** — worse than a coin flip against the market price. Fitzmaurice's own bust record is 22.86 accuracy and -108.57 on 13 graded, against a much healthier 59.2 on his 32 graded sleeper calls. Take the man's buys more seriously than his sells.

One kicker note, since it's a draft-slot claim: Jahnke calls [Brandon Aubrey](/nfl/players/brandon-aubrey) "the clear No. 1 fantasy kicker," Tarracciano has him as the top kicker on the board, and Ted Chmyz says "drafting Aubrey anywhere near his ADP is lighting a pick on fire" at an 84.7 ESPN ADP against a 184 expert consensus rank.

## Team defense: nothing to report

We hold zero Fantasy Defense Calls on Dallas — and zero graded ones league-wide, so there is no basis to estimate accuracy on a Cowboys D/ST. For what it's worth, punditry about this defense's best-known player has gone badly: takes about Micah Parsons average 17.4 accuracy and -28.0 skill across 22 graded calls, the worst mark of any Cowboy.

## How much of this should you trust?

![Graded Cowboys takes by player](/posts/visuals/e767b8dc-0f1c-43cb-8652-b322c3afbdda.png)

Three cautions, in order of size.

**The graders on this team are middling, not elite.** Brown sits third on [the leaderboard](/leaderboard) overall (35.62 MissedTakes Score, 62.71 accuracy on 114 graded), but his sleeper calls specifically run 52.25 accuracy and just +8.99 skill on 41 graded, and his Positional Finishes 12.85 accuracy on 19. His busts are the strength: 77.08 accuracy, +108.33 on 16. Strachan's sleepers are the best fantasy line among Dallas regulars — 65 accuracy, +60 on 24 graded — but his overall record is still marked provisional at 53 graded takes.

**Finish predictions are worse than value calls.** Positional Finishes on Cowboys players sit at 35.2 accuracy on 18 graded. Site-wide the same claim kind runs 32–38 accuracy at every lead time we measure. "Top-five tight end" and "top-10 back" are the least reliable sentences in this preview.

**Late-August calls are not automatically sharper.** [Lead-time data](/methodology) says sleeper calls made inside six weeks of resolution average 42 accuracy on 26 graded, below the 55 for calls made four to eight months out (211 graded). Bust calls inside six weeks do better — 70 on 10 graded — but ten calls is ten calls.

![How thin the Cowboys fantasy file is](/posts/visuals/22b50215-d45c-4869-a5b7-e46bbd92867a.png)

**Bottom line for a drafter:** the Prescott discount and Javonte Williams both have graded precedent behind them, the Lamb argument is a price fight nobody has won yet, and the Ferguson bust chorus is coming from the least reliable claim type we grade, made by the pundit with the weakest bust record in the group.
