# Philadelphia Eagles Fantasy Preview 2026: The Field Is Unanimous on Saquon Barkley Again, and Its Last Three Barkley Calls All Scored Zero

*Published 2026-08-30 — MissedTakes*

Part of our 32-team preseason series: what a fantasy drafter should actually take from what pundits are saying about each club.

The [Philadelphia Eagles](/nfl/teams/eagles) went 11-6 and made the playoffs in 2025, two years after winning the title in 2024. The fantasy conversation around them this August is louder than the graded record behind it. We have **62 sleeper calls** and **8 bust calls** tied to Eagles players on file. Nine of the sleepers and two of the busts have been graded. Zero of the fantasy-ranking calls in our database name an Eagle, and there are **zero fantasy-defense calls on Philadelphia** — the [fantasy-defense-finish type](/predictions) has no graded takes site-wide yet, so if you want an opinion on the Eagles D/ST, we do not have one to grade.

That is the caveat for everything below. Read on for who the field likes; read the last section before you trust it.

## Quarterback: the one place pundits genuinely disagree

Six sleeper calls on [Jalen Hurts](/nfl/players/jalen-hurts) this offseason; three bust calls. That is the widest split on the roster.

The bulls lead with price. [Nathan Jahnke](/pundits/nathan-jahnke) at PFF flags him at [ADP 5.05](/opinions/7ac1d40f-02ab-4a2d-98cc-02c3f17ec84b), giving him "a strong chance to bounce back toward his typical fantasy range." [Derek Brown](/pundits/derek-brown), the highest-ranked fantasy voice on our [leaderboard](/leaderboard) at No. 3 overall, went further in July: Hurts is ["the falling value"](/opinions/516d7a09-e2fe-4e82-af43-8d1d7e3f4281) and "has a better setup than even Lamar Jackson does." FantasyPros' unsigned staff call him a "buy-the-dip candidate coming off his worst year." Ellis Bryn Johnson plants a flag on a top-five finish; Josh Moore says top three.

The bears lead with the rushing profile. [Pat Fitzmaurice](/pundits/pat-fitzmaurice) has faded him twice, most bluntly: ["With sensational rushing yards no longer bankable, Hurts is a fade."](/opinions/11daba19-7ec9-435c-b67d-13ed414c7373) Mike Fanelli prices the argument — Hurts at ADP 77.19 as QB6, when "fantasy players can draft Justin Herbert nearly two rounds later and get similar upside."

Worth knowing: the graded QB record on this club is the worst of any position group here. Fourteen graded Eagles QB takes average **30.3 accuracy** with a skill delta of **-17.4** — below a naive baseline. Four 2025 calls that Hurts was a top-five or top-ten quarterback scored 8.33, 8.33, 8.33 and 50. But the *fantasy* version of the call worked: Mason Dodd's 2025 sleeper on Hurts at [a fourth-round price](/opinions/e111bd02-f772-4ac4-a3f6-3f8a82871d08) graded 100 — Hurts finished QB8 against a QB9 bar. Ranking him among the league's best quarterbacks and getting fourth-round fantasy value out of him are different bets, and only one of them has been landing.

## Running back: unanimous faith, and a record of zeroes

Four sleeper calls on [Saquon Barkley](/nfl/players/saquon-barkley) this offseason. Zero bust calls. [Tom Strachan](/pundits/tom-strachan) likes him at 1.09 with ["a new offensive coordinator and a healthy offensive line"](/opinions/25c3de0e-550b-4c64-82cd-1a2b40f340f9); Chad Workman has him at RB10, ADP 15, and "deserving of first-round draft capital"; Wolf Trelles-Heard calls him "a smash pick in Round 2, no matter the format."

Here is the problem. Every graded sleeper call on Barkley in our database has scored **0**. [Chad Ochocinco Johnson](/pundits/chad-ochocinco-johnson) predicted [a bounce back](/opinions/cd0eab3d-1392-41f3-a9b6-026860f9ffa5); [Jake Ciely](/pundits/jake-ciely) and [Andrew Erickson](/pundits/andrew-erickson) both [liked him as a BILO](/opinions/abd0628c-1338-467b-9ac3-d89c922468eb). He finished RB13 against an RB1 bar. The only Barkley call in the file that scored 100 was Erickson's [bust call](/opinions/f6287666-eaac-4848-8f1d-0a470374edf0) from May 2025: "I don't think that he should be the number one running back." Across 18 graded takes, Barkley subjects average **22.4 accuracy** and a **-6.1** skill delta.

That is not evidence Barkley is bad. It is evidence that the specific claim pundits keep making about him — that he returns to his 2024 level — has failed every time it has been graded, and they are making it again.

Behind him, [Tank Bigsby](/nfl/players/tank-bigsby) draws seven sleeper mentions, almost all handcuff-framed. Derek Brown twice: ["If you're looking for handcuffs to stash, Bigsby is one of the best."](/opinions/e49140e0-5ce1-4025-8c97-68b135272765) FantasyPros' consensus has him RB52 with an ECR-over-ADP gap of +34. His one graded take scored 0 (he finished RB60).

## Wide receiver: the biggest pile-on on the roster

[DeVonta Smith](/nfl/players/devonta-smith) collects eight sleeper calls, more than any Eagle but the rookie. Jahnke has him as [a "league winner" at ADP 3.09](/opinions/ea91b830-2169-4d30-8972-2c60d6218fd3) with top-five-to-top-ten upside; Fanelli says three separate times that Smith "will have a career year and a top-12 finish"; Austin Swaim notes it is "hard to put Smith behind the likes of Garrett Wilson, Zay Flowers, or Ladd McConkey." Almost every write-up leans on A.J. Brown's departure to New England, as the pundits describe it.

The lone dissent came early: Ciely on March 1 noted ["we just saw the worst year of DeVonta Smith's career"](/opinions/f008bc87-e53b-4608-b4e1-fa9bf94144a8) and slotted him three spots below consensus.

Smith is the best-graded fantasy subject on this roster — seven graded takes, **83.3 accuracy**, **+32.7** skill. But read the arithmetic before you round up. Both 2025 sleeper calls on him, from Strachan and Derek Brown, graded 100 because he finished WR25 against a WR28 bar. That is a hit by three slots, not a breakout.

The rookie, [Makai Lemon](/nfl/players/makai-lemon), has 11 sleeper calls — the most on the team — going back to May, when Bob Harris said he was "a certain hit this year if AJ Brown is gone." Fitzmaurice has repeated him at [WR39, 92nd overall](/opinions/4820f93c-16a0-4f75-807f-75bf79a92e5c): "miss small, hit big." Raju Byfield is the one bust voice, worried about "what is now looking like a rotational role."

[Dontayvion Wicks](/nfl/players/dontayvion-wicks) is the sharpest small disagreement: five sleeper calls — Tristan Cockcroft ("opportunity … is clearer"), [Ralph Vacchiano](/pundits/ralph-vacchiano) ([a chance to "help fill Brown's shoes"](/opinions/6e1c3a45-6b4f-48e5-b865-066206820d14)) — against Henry McKenna, who says the fantasy community has "already turned him into their darling" and offers "a word of caution."

## Tight end: six for, one against

[Dallas Goedert](/nfl/players/dallas-goedert) draws six late-round sleeper calls. Derek Brown [wouldn't rule out a top-six finish again](/opinions/eaddec7f-ab5e-463b-9c8d-a38820e569b5); Fitzmaurice says [the 31-year-old "clearly has gas left in the tank"](/opinions/c01d9331-d53c-4f38-90fe-06a4b254c330); FantasyPros' projections put him TE8 against a TE13 consensus. Eric Karabell is the fade: "Goedert isn't durable, and he likely isn't coming close to double-digit TDs again." Only two Goedert takes are graded, averaging 66.7 — including Fitzmaurice's Week 17 TE10 ranking, which scored 33.33 because Goedert actually finished second.

## How much should you trust any of this?

Three checks.

**Whose calls have earned trust.** Among pundits with 5+ graded sleeper calls who are also making Eagles calls: Strachan leads at 62.5 accuracy (24 graded), then Mike Harmon 55.0 (20), Fitzmaurice 53.1 (32), Ciely 53.3 (15), Derek Brown 51.2 (41), Erickson 45.9 (37), Joe Pisapia 44.4 (9). On bust calls the order scrambles — Erickson 81.8 (11 graded) and Derek Brown 75.0 (16) lead, while Fitzmaurice drops to 30.8 (13) and Pisapia to 28.6 (7). Nobody here is above 63 on sleepers. Treat these as coin flips with a small edge, not as reads.

![Sleeper-call accuracy by position, site-wide](/posts/visuals/317a0633-c547-4536-abb0-afbf177ffd6a.png)

**Which groups are reliable.** Site-wide, graded sleeper calls run 63.9 accuracy at QB (36 graded), 60.9 at TE (23), 52.2 at WR (134) and **45.9 at RB (109)** — the only group below a coin flip. The Eagles' loudest fantasy consensus, Barkley and Bigsby, sits in that group.

**When they were made.** Nearly every Eagles call above was published in August. In our [lead-time data](/methodology), sleeper calls made inside six weeks of resolution grade **42** on average (26 calls) — worse than the 55 posted by calls made four to eight months out (211 calls). The sample inside six weeks is thin, so don't over-read it, but there is no evidence that August sleeper calls are sharper than spring ones. If anything, the late calls have graded worst.

Net: the Smith consensus has the best-graded subject history behind it and the mildest actual bar cleared last year. The Barkley consensus is the one to discount, because it is the exact claim that has failed every grading so far. And on the Eagles defense, punditry has given us nothing to check.
