# New York Jets 2026 Coverage Report: 128 Mock Picks at 69.5 Accuracy, 21 Game Picks at 9.5

*Published 2026-09-06 — MissedTakes*

One club per post, 32 posts, all keyed to the same question: how did the outlets we track treat this team, and what did the grades say afterward? Today, the New York Jets.

One caveat up front, and only once: this measures the sources MissedTakes tracks, not all of football media. A local beat writer who never appears in our corpus does not show up here.

## The coverage baseline: below average, but not ignored

Across all 32 clubs our database holds 19,999 takes, a mean of 625 per team. The Jets carry **499** — 23rd of 32 by volume. The Buffalo Bills, at 1,026, draw more than twice as much attention.

Graded volume tells a different story. Of those 499 Jets takes, **216 are graded**, which ties the Jets with the Chargers for 11th-most in the league and sits just above the 32-team average of 212. The gap between "23rd in coverage" and "11th in graded coverage" has a simple cause: a large share of what our sources said about the Jets was mock-draft material, and mock drafts resolve on a fixed date. Opinions about how good the team would be tended to stay opinions; opinions about where the team would pick got settled.

The record the coverage was aimed at: the Jets went 3-14 in 2025 and 5-12 in 2024. In the seasons this site records, their last playoff berth was 2010. They enter 2026 with Aaron Glenn as head coach and Darren Mougey as general manager.

## What actually got graded

Here is every claim kind on the Jets that carries at least one grade.

| Claim kind | Takes | Graded | Avg accuracy | Avg skill |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mock Draft Picks | 149 | 128 | 69.5 | +37.4 |
| Game Outcome Picks | 21 | 21 | 9.5 | −83.6 |
| Depth Chart Calls | 136 | 9 | 97.2 | +4.8 |
| Trade and Signing Calls | 14 | 9 | 66.7 | −11.1 |
| Sleeper Calls | 36 | 8 | 37.5 | −50.0 |
| Fantasy Bust Calls | 19 | 7 | 14.3 | −129.4 |
| Season Win Totals | 18 | 7 | 28.6 | −10.0 |
| Player Season Numbers | 30 | 5 | 41.8 | −35.4 |
| Team Draft Slot Calls | 19 | 5 | 99.2 | +18.8 |
| Playoff Picks | 5 | 5 | 0.0 | −198.8 |

Two of those rows carry the story. Everything else is a handful of calls.

### The draft: the one thing the field got right

The Jets have **128 graded mock-draft picks**, second only to the Saints' 185 — the price of picking near the top of the board two years running. Those calls hit at 69.5 accuracy with a +37.4 skill delta, better than the league's mock accuracy on most clubs.

The 2026 first round is why. The Jets took **David Bailey** (OLB, Texas Tech) at No. 2, and the field saw it coming from every direction: [Daniel Jeremiah](/pundits/daniel-jeremiah) on March 13 ("So I'm gonna throw David Bailey in there with the second pick"), [Bucky Brooks](/pundits/bucky-brooks) on March 26, [Field Yates](/pundits/field-yates) on March 24, [Nick Shook](/pundits/nick-shook) on April 9, [Todd McShay](/pundits/todd-mcshay) on April 15, [Keith Sanchez](/pundits/keith-sanchez) on April 20. All graded 100.

Jeremiah also got there before the mocks did. On [February 19](/opinions/7b09afb9-44ec-4189-8a94-37daee633ce7), pre-combine, he said "I think the Jets are a kind of a prime candidate to take one there at two" — an edge rusher at No. 2. Graded 100, skill +19.5 against a naive baseline that had them picking 7th again. [Chris Brockman](/pundits/chris-brockman) called the top-five slot back on October 6, 2025: "Both the Giants and the Jets will be picking in the top five next April." Also 100.

The year before, the consensus was equally clean on Armand Membou at No. 7 — [Mel Kiper](/pundits/mel-kiper), [Kyle Crabbs](/pundits/kyle-crabbs) (twice), Jeremiah and [Gregg Rosenthal](/pundits/gregg-rosenthal) all had it exact.

### The games: the worst team-level game-picking record we track

Twenty-one graded game picks involving the Jets, average accuracy **9.5**, average skill **−83.6**. Among the 26 clubs with at least 10 graded game picks, that is the lowest accuracy in the league — the Giants are next at 20.0, and the top of the board (Seahawks 87.3, Patriots 87.2) is a different sport.

![Game-pick accuracy by team, lowest and highest](/posts/visuals/7dc25b3a-6e39-4055-8887-bc4c0246a91e.png)

Nearly all of it is the same mistake: taking the Jets. [Dylan O'Brien](/pundits/dylan-o-brien) walked the [2025 schedule game by game](/opinions/00f47095-c3ef-4500-a45d-fa58d97676b1) and landed on 11-6, picking Jets wins over Dallas, Jacksonville, Tampa Bay, New Orleans, Miami, Buffalo and New England. Two of his Jets picks hit. Rosenthal took them plus 2.5 in Miami ("I just think this is the Jets chance to go win a game") — 21-27. [Cynthia Frelund](/pundits/cynthia-frelund)'s model liked the same game. [Pat McAfee](/pundits/pat-mcafee) and [AJ Hawk](/pundits/aj-hawk) both took Jets plus three in Week 14; Miami won 34-10. [Rich Eisen](/pundits/rich-eisen) took them for a road upset in Tampa. [Colin Cowherd](/pundits/colin-cowherd) took them in Week 1 against Pittsburgh; the Jets lost 34-32.

The playoff picks are the same instinct at season scale: five graded, all zero, average skill −198.8. Rosenthal had them as his seventh seed in September 2025.

Win totals were less catastrophic because the field mostly stayed low. Against an actual three wins, [Nick Wright](/pundits/nick-wright) and [Brady Quinn](/pundits/brady-quinn) said six, Rosenthal said six in April and seven in August, O'Brien said eleven. The closest was Brockman in June 2025: "Five, six at most" — 60 accuracy, +70 skill, the best graded Jets win-total call in the file.

## The cutdown: 17 calls, 1 grade

The 53-man roster is the news hook for this series, and for the Jets it is mostly a blank page. We hold **17 roster-spot takes on the Jets, and exactly one is graded** — [Rosenthal's March 2025 call](/opinions/89637841-0be4-414d-9dd0-f380cb679557) that Davante Adams was "somewhat likely to get cut," graded 0 with a −200 skill delta.

The other 16 are pending. That includes the entire post-cutdown wave: Nick Faria's projected 53 on August 31 keeping [Nate Lynn](/nfl/players/nate-lynn) on the practice squad, Colby Colwell's September 1 prediction that Lynn gets promoted early with Joseph Ossai week-to-week, Carter Bahns writing on August 27 that "the Jets have a new-look defense that might not include" [Mazi Smith](/nfl/players/mazi-smith), and [Nathan Jahnke](/pundits/nathan-jahnke) making [Malik McClain](/nfl/players/malik-mcclain) the favorite for a sixth receiver spot. None of it has a grade yet. There are no graded cutdown surprises to report, in either direction, and we are not going to manufacture them.

## Who has a record on this team

Sixteen pundits clear five graded Jets takes. Only one clears fifteen, so read the rest as a log, not a ranking.

| Pundit | Graded | Avg accuracy | Avg skill |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jaime Eisner | 20 | 37.2 | +43.8 |
| Gregg Rosenthal | 13 | 46.7 | −40.8 |
| Dylan O'Brien | 12 | 16.7 | −104.2 |
| Daniel Jeremiah | 11 | 83.5 | +34.0 |
| Kyle Crabbs | 10 | 41.9 | +37.4 |
| Mel Kiper | 9 | 73.6 | +31.0 |
| Colin Cowherd | 8 | 62.2 | +12.5 |
| Rich Eisen | 8 | 84.5 | +5.2 |

By outlet, [The Herd with Colin Cowherd](/outlets) leads on Jets volume with 38 graded takes (43.7 accuracy, −37.3 skill), followed by The Rich Eisen Show at 31 (59.5, −25.4) and Around the NFL at 21 (54.2, −22.1). The Draft Network's 21 graded Jets takes score 40.2 on accuracy but +43.5 on skill — the mock-draft pattern again, where being roughly right about a top-five pick beats the naive baseline even when the exact name is wrong.

The summary is short. On where the Jets would draft, the field was excellent and early. On whether the Jets would win anything, it was wrong almost every time it opened its mouth. And on the 53-man roster, the grades simply have not landed yet.
